Bluerush welcomes you to our amazing city and to our nationally recognized watersport race event featuring Standup Paddleboard, Prone Paddleboard, OC1, OC2 and Surfski competition.

The San Francisco Bay is known worldwide as one of the most challenging bodies of water in the world for watersports of all kinds. Historically it has been home to many of the world’s most premier race events including the Americas Cup and many other National and International Sailing, Windsurfing and Kiteboarding championships. It is surrounded by history, beauty and destinations that people travel from all over the world to see.

Here you’ll find answers to many of your questions or concerns. If your questions are not addressed here, please feel free to contact us directly.

1) Where do I register?

Register in advance at Paddle Guru.

Prices will go up if you wait to register after Saturday, September 29th.

The last opportunity to register is in person, Saturday, September 29th from 3:00-8:00PM at 101 Surf Sports San Rafael @ 115 Third St. 

2) Will it be safe to be out on the Bay?

Paddling on the Bay is no doubt challenging, however we have carefully taken into consideration the wind, tide & currents. The race will be challenging and exhilarating, but it will also be fun for even our Open paddlers. And yes we will have safety boats out on the water and emergency medical staff as well.

3) What championships are being held?

We are hosting the Battle of the Bay Championship. This year’s event is also World SUP Tour and Salt Life Championship points event. In all of these the lowest combined score for a man and a woman will determine the winners.

4) What are the required board lengths for Elite Men and Women?

Men-14’-Women-14un.

5) Do Elite competitors need to race in the Bay Challenge and Technical race to win the championship and prize money?

Yes, only the Elite Competitors are eligible to win the $12,000 purse.

6) Do I have to be an Elite racer to try to win the Battle of the Bay Championship?

No! There is an OPEN division as well. Which means ONLY OPEN RACERS can win. 

8) Will there be food?

No, we strongly advice you pack your favorite race day nutrition and hydration to keep your body powered for the races! There are lots of services nearby the event site. Starbucks , In & Out Burger etc..

9) Can Open competitors sign up for the Bay Challenge race that goes around the South Tower?

Sorry no. This course and distance is limited to the Elite competitors only.

10) While awards be given to each watercraft and age division?

Yes, however a minimum of 5 entries makes up a division. Those age divisions with less than 5 entries will be added to the next older age group. In addition, a minimum of 5 watercraft are required to make a class. There will be no start for a watercraft class of less than 5.

1st, 2nd and 3rd Place will be awarded.

11) Will there be a Grom or under 12yr old race?

Yes. There will be a short distance race along the beach for family and friends to cheer on the kids as they race. This race is FREE.

12) Will bad weather conditions cancel racing?

The safety of our competitors is always our biggest concern. If the race director determines that conditions are unsafe racing will be either postponed until a later time that day or cancelled. The race director may also shorten the courses as needed.

13) Are PFD’s and leashes required?

Absolutely- Safety first. If you start without a leash or PFD or both you may be subject to being pulled from the race.
